Size Matters! Tweak your Tableware

A few facts and a little sleight of hand can help you avoid overeating. First the facts: Typical portions have skyrocketed over the last few decades, as evidenced by all the entrees fit for Godzilla out there. People eat nearly all of what they’re served, regardless of the actual quantity provided. Now the trick: Whenever possible, switch out large plates and bowls for smaller ones. It’s that simple. While keeping what to eat at the forefront of your mind — a whole-foods, plant-based  

On the home front: Switch out your dinner plate for a salad plate or a cereal bowl. If your portion looks paltry, remember that your empty stomach is only about the size of a fist!

Out and about: At parties and restaurants with buffet-style food, wield an appetizer plate with pride. When you can’t choose your own plate, ask restaurant servers to put half in a to-go container before you get started.
