Drink your greens!

Here is a smoothie that has appeal year round with a green smoothie developed by Chef Perko.  Even the Chef’s grandchildren like It.  You can be sure that if the children approve, it must be delicious! And it is, with natural sweetness provided by the banana, grapes, and orange, with added color and flavor from the fresh spinach and kale.

Green Smoothie
Makes five 1-cup servings
1 cup washed spinach leaves, firmly packed
1 cup washed kale, roughly chopped, firmly packed
1 cup green seedless grapes
1 barely ripe Bartlett pear (core, stem, and seeds removed)
1 orange (peeled and quartered)
1 ripe banana (peeled)
1 teaspoon chia seeds
½ cup water
2 cups ice

Place all ingredients in a blender and process on low speed for 15 seconds. Increase to medium speed, then high speed, and continue to process until well blended. Serve with a smoothie smile!
