Drinking water with the juice from half a lemon is a simple morning ritual that can benefit your health. For starters, it gets your digestive juices flowing and can supplement stomach acid, which declines as we get older as is needed to help break down food. Lemon water also offers a small dose of vitamin C, potassium, and disease-fighting phytonutrients. And if you drink it instead of your usual cappuccino or glass of orange juice, the swap can help you lose weight. And then there’s the most obvious benefit: lemon water is hydrating! Given that most people don’t drink enough water, getting a glass in first thing starts you off on the right fruit. (To know if you’re getting enough water: Your urine should be almost clear.) Simply squeeze half a lemon into a glass, add water, and sip away. That’s it!
